From idea to paper

Songbird in a garden coloring page

A blank page. An open invitation.

Try it your way

Make a palette before you begin.

Try a few colors together, then leave some space for surprises.

Start with three colors

Choose a main color, a supporting color and one small bright accent. Repeating them gives even a simple drawing a sense of rhythm.

Keep the outlines readable

Light colors let small details stand out. Use darker colors for a few larger shapes rather than every tiny space.

Leave a little white

Not every area needs filling. White paper can be clouds, light, snow or a resting place for the eye.
